Basic Information

MRSA stands for Meticillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Meticillin is an antibiotic closely related to Penicillin, and is no longer used for clinical cases due to MRSA’s resistance to it. In fact, MRSA, a strain of Staphylococcus aureus, is resistant to most variations of penicillin. S. aureus is also a cause of sinus infections, food poisoning, and skin infections.
